Parks, Recreation and Beautification Commission
The Parks, Recreation and Beautification Commission was established by Ordinance in 2005 when the City Council combined the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Grover Beautiful Committee. This Commission is a body of five citizens that provides recommendations to the City Council and Parks and Recreation Department affecting parks and recreation issues, beautification efforts, and City-sponsored special events. The Commission also provides a forum for citizen input.
Activities and Special Events
- The Activity Guide for the Cities of Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach, and Pismo Beach, and the Oceano Community Services District is now available at City Halls and Parks and Recreation Offices throughout the South County. Don't miss out on some of the great recreation opportunities offered for the entire family!

- Sizzlin' Summer Concert Series - Don't miss out on our free concert series, co-sponsored with the Grover Beach Chamber of Commerce, and held in conjunction with a Farmers' Market (June 7 - September 27, 2009). - Skate Camp
Date: Weekly Sessions (Mon - Fri) beginning June 15th until August 14th
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Fee: $95 (R); $105 (NR) per week
Location: South County Skate Park, 1750 Ramona Avenue
Skaters ages 6 - 12 years, beginners to intermediate level are welcome. The camp goal is to develop performance skills, sportsmanship, safety skills, and park etiquette. Campers must wear proper shoes, bring a mid day snack, skateboard, and full gear (including helmet, elbow pads and knee pads). Register early to save your space.
- SLO Symphony Musical Petting Zoo
Date: Thursday, June 25, 2009
Time: 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Fee: Free!
Location: Grover Beach Community Center, 1230 Trouville Ave.
Has your child ever expressed an interest in playing a trombone or violin, but you don't have an instrument? Your child can try these and many more at the Petting Zoo. Watch out, you may want to try the trombone yourself! All ages welcome!
- 21st Annual Dune Run Run – Saturday, August 29th the run/walk starts at 9:00 a.m. at the Ramona Garden Park. Day of registration begins at 8:00 a.m. This is a challenging and diverse course, along the beautiful coastline that includes a 5K Walk, 5K Run, and 10K Run. The Dune Run-Run is a cross country course through the streets of Grover Beach, the beach boardwalk, hard packed sand and the soft sand dunes. Awards are given in all age categories!
Race will be followed by an awards ceremony.

- Stone Soup Music Faire

A multi-cultural event including: musical entertainment, ethnic food, arts and crafts, pony rides, a petting zoo, wine tasting, citizen health fair, a fun run (the Dune Run Run), and more! - Summer Paintball League - 10 week long league play includes instructional clinic, practice, games, and an ending tournament.

- Summer Surf Camp - Co-sponsored with ESB Surf School. Classes are two hours long and meet right by the beach. Surfboards and wetsuits are provided and suit every profile and ability level: beginners or advanced surfers, ESB has got what you need! So whether you're learning to surf for the first time, or experienced and looking to pick up tips from a pro, you can expect quality instruction, dynamic curriculum, and a safety first attitude from all the experienced instructors. - Tiny Tots Enrichment Program - The Tiny Tots Enrichment Program is a child enrichment program designed to integrate advanced learning and social skills.

Advanced Tiny Tots - This class is for older preschool children. It introduces colors, shapes, numbers, letters and includes art, games, music, and movement.

Kinderkids - This kindergarten readiness class prepares the child for the academic challenges ahead. This class provides learning experiences through art projects, games, music and movement and dramatic play.
Ages: 4 1/2 - 5 1/2 years

Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon or 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Fee: $139 per month

- Internet Driving School - The course is fun, interactive, and educational. Coursework can be completed at any time of day or night. DMV-accepted completion certificates issued upon successful completion of the course. Class DOES NOT include behind-the-wheel driving.
Ages: 14 - 18 years
Fee: $76 (R); $83.60 (NR)

- Youth Tennis Instruction - Group tennis instruction is arranged according to skill level, age, and space availability.
Ages: 7 - 17 years
Dates: Mondays or Wednesdays
Time: Mondays: 3:45 - 4:45 p.m.; Wednesdays: 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Fee: $42 (R); $46.20 (NR) per month
Location: Grover Heights Tennis Courts, Atlantic City Avenue and North 8th Street
- Miss Etiquette Presents - This workshop will present lessons in proper behavior for all occasions. Participants will receive guidance in a variety of topics including table manners, social etiquette, ordering food in a restaurant, entertainment at home, ceremonial occasions and written communication.
Ages: 6 - 12 years
Dates: Saturdays (Specific dates to be determined)
Time: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Fee: $25 (R); $27.50 (NR) per workshop includes snack

Community Programs
Volunteer Opportunities The Grover Beach Parks and Recreation Department is currently seeking volunteers to assist with programs and special events held throughout the year. Volunteer opportunities include sport programs, office work, special event support, and much more. Help is needed both before and after events. Students needing community service hours are also welcome to participate as volunteers at any of the Department's special events.
Do you have a talent you would like to share? Instructors are needed to teach classes for older adults, teens, and youth. Topics and schedules can be tailored to meet your individual availability.
