    Recreation:

    • Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA)
      The entrance to the Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area is just off Highway 1 at Grover Beach. All-terrain vehicles may be rented to go four-wheel driving on the dunes or to just experience driving directly on the Pacific Ocean coastline. This major beach and sand dune recreation area attracts approximately 1 million visitors a year, and provides outstanding recreation opportunities for off-highway enthusiasts from throughout the United States.

    • Pismo State Beach Golf Course Enjoy a 9-hole public golf course adjacent to the beautiful Pacific Ocean. This is an excellent course for sharpening up your short game. Water hazards come into play on five holes. The course is in good condition and designed for the whole family to enjoy. Location: 25 West Grand Avenue, Grover Beach, just half a block west from Highway One (the Pacific Coast Highway).

    • South County Skate Park Check out this 13,234 square foot facility available for skateboarding and in-line skating fun for children and adults alike! Skate camps and special events are scheduled throughout the year. Location: 1750 Ramona Avenue (between 16th Street and Oak Park Boulevard) in Grover Beach.

    • .Exploration Station Come see the "children's museum"! Children of all ages will enjoy the revolving exhibits, interactive displays, and weekly activities designed to spark the imagination and creativity of the youth in our community. This facility (also referred to as the "South County Family Educational and Cultural Center") is located in the City's former Fire Station, 867 Ramona Avenue, Grover Beach.

    • Monarch Butterfly Grove - Every winter from November through February, thousands of Monarch butterflies may be found in a grove of eucalyptus trees at the Pismo State Beach Butterfly Grove, just half a mile north of the Grover Beach Train Station and adjacent to one segment of the Beach Boardwalk. This is one of the largest over wintering sites for these butterflies in the United States. Park docents staff the grove from November through February from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with talks provided at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

    • The Dunes Center The visitor, education, and research center of the Nature Conservancy's Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes, one of California's largest and most ecologically diverse dune complex. With dunes towering as high as 500 feet, the preserve spans 18 miles from Mussel Rock to Oceano, spreading 18 miles wide and encompassing 8 lakes.

    • San Luis Obispo County Parks San Luis Obispo County is renowned for its beauty and moderate climate, making it an ideal site to enjoy the outdoors on a year-round basis. County parks range from the several thousand acres of wilderness found at Lopez and Santa Margarita Lakes to micro-parks located along the scenic coast offering public access to the ocean and Morro Bay. San Luis Obispo County has numerous locations for your outdoor recreation enjoyment including trails, golf courses, campgrounds, pools, and picnic sites.

    Performing Arts Centers:

      The Clark Center for the Performing Arts
      A cultural and performing arts facility to enhance the enjoyment, entertainment and education of Central Coast families. The Center features a 600-seat hall and a black box studio theater that seats 120.

      The Performing Arts Center - San Luis Obispo
      Located on the California Polytechnic State University campus in San Luis Obispo, this Center features a concert hall with 1,282 seats, a pavilion, and a 170-seat recital hall.

      Public Bus Tranportation Services -

    • South County Area Transit (SCAT) Public bus transportation service for the southern portion of San Luis Obispo County only - the cities of Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach, and Pismo Beach (including Shell Beach), and the unincorporated area of Oceano.
    • San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority Intercity fixed route public bus transportation service and ADA paratransit service "Runabout" for the entire area of San Luis Obispo County.

    • Amtrak Amtrak offers daily service into San Luis Obispo County from the Coast Starlight and the Pacific Surfliner trains. The Grover Beach Train Station is located at the intersection of Highway One (Pacific Coast Highway) and West Grand Avenue. Parking is free!     College Level: Residents of San Luis Obispo County are served by three college campuses and several college satellite locations:
    • Cal Poly State University - San Luis Obispo

    • Cuesta Community College
      In addition to the main campus just outside the city of San Luis Obispo, Cuesta College has recently opened a satellite campus in North San Luis Obispo County and another satellite site on the Arroyo Grande High School campus in the South County.

    • Allan Hancock Community College This community college campus is located in the city of Santa Maria. Although this campus is in Santa Barbara County, it's approximately 25 miles south of Grover Beach.

    • Chapman University, LaVerne University, and University of Redlands also provide college courses at satellite locations throughout San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties.

    • Branch Locations South County library branches are located in Shell Beach, Arroyo Grande, and Nipomo. The main library is located in downtown San Luis Obispo at: 995 Palm Street
