IMPROVEMENT AGENCY?

The City Council is comprised of five members elected at-large to represent the City. The term for the position of Mayor is two-years. Each City Council term is four years, with expiration occuring at staggered intervals. At the first meeting in December, the Mayor selects a member of the City Council to serve for one year in the position of Mayor Pro Tem (Pursuant to Resolution No. 08-18).

The City Council makes decisions, establishes policies and enacts laws on behalf of the voters for the betterment of Grover Beach. The City Council also acts as the Improvement Agency for the City's adopted Redevelopment Plans.

Grover Beach maintains a Council-Manager form of government and is a general law city organized under California State statutes.

Meeting Schedule

Public meetings are held in the City Hall Council Chambers, Grover Beach City Hall, 154 S. Eighth Street at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Monday of each month. However, if a regular meeting date falls on a holiday, meetings are usually scheduled the following day.

Your Opportunity to See and Hear City Council Meetings - Regular meetings (as well as some special meetings or workshops) are broadcast live through the local government cable access television station ("Channel 20") and replayed throughout the week. Copies of previous meetings are available for check out at the South County Library, 800 West Branch Street, Arroyo Grande or for sale by contacting the video production company agpvideo@charter.net.

Broadcast Schedule - on Charter Cable Television Public, Education, and Government Access Channel 20:

  • On the day of the meeting - televised live.
  • During the rest of the week- Daily at 1:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 6:00 p.m.
  • The week following the meeting - Thursdays and Sundays at 1:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., and 6:00 p.m.

Your presence and participation at City Council meetings are contributions toward good government and a better Grover Beach. Please attend as often as possible!

In person at a regular City Council meeting during the Public Comment period:
  • Any member of the public may address the Council for a period not to exceed three minutes total on any item of interest within the jurisdiction of the Council. The Council will listen to all communications; however, in compliance with state law, the Council cannot act on items which do not already appear on the printed and posted agenda.
