Grover Beach, CA – The City of Grover Beach invites residents to begin the holiday season by participating in its very first Thanksgiving Thankfulness Contest. Despite the difficult nature of COVID-19 public health and safety guidelines, the City is once again finding ways to bring the Grove Beach community safely together this holiday season.
“While we understand that COVID-19 has made for a challenging year, Thanksgiving is the perfect opportunity to take a step back and recognize the positive in our lives,” said Mayor Jeff Lee. “I encourage our community to take a moment and let us know what they are thankful for through our inaugural Thanksgiving Thankfulness Contest.”
To enter the Grover Beach Thanksgiving Thankfulness Contest, Grover Beach residents can share what they are thankful for with the Grover Beach Parks and Recreation Department by emailing gbparks@groverbeach.org by 5pm on November 25, 2020. Accompanying photos are also welcomed and may be featured on the City’s social media channels. Three winners will be announced on the evening of November 25th. The grand prize entry will win a dinner for four from The Spoon Trade while the second and third place winners will receive a Thanksgiving dessert.
Sharing in the spirit of the Thanksgiving Thankfulness Contest, here are some things city staff are especially grateful for this year:

I am thankful to have a family that is staying safe and although it is a tough time for our country, I look forward to having a vaccine so we can get back to normal. – Cesar Zarate, Public Works Maintenance Supervisor
Here at GBPD, we are very thankful to the community in which we serve. The support from the residents and businesses of Grover Beach is unmatched and we appreciate being able to help make Grover Beach a safe place to live, work and prosper. – John Peters, Police Chief
What am I most thankful for? This list could be so long it would never end! I am Thankful for the gift of life for it is a gift … I am Thankful for being cured from cancer not once but twice … I am Thankful I am LOVED by family and friends … I am Thankful for being blessed to be a Mom … I am Thankful for my FREEDOM … I am Thankful for my job in serving the community …I am Thankful for lots of things! This list could go on forever. Remember not everyone has lists of things to be THANKFUL for – maybe you could be the reason they are Thankful for: a smile, a kindness, a warm meal, a jacket, a hug, a kind word! I am Thankful! —Tamie Johns, Parks and Recreation Administrative Assistant
The Thanksgiving Thankfulness Contest is just one of many ways that the City of Grover Beach has brought the community together despite having to be physically kept apart throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This has included its #GBtogether yard sign campaign, the #GetMovingwithGroverBeach exercise contest over the summer, socially distanced recreation classes, and virtual Halloween decorating contests. Grover Beach residents will also have a Holiday Lights Contest and other exciting holiday activities to look forward to for the month of December.
