To show its appreciation and gratitude for the numerous volunteers throughout 2021, the City of Grover Beach Parks & Recreation Department with assistance from Cal Poly volunteer assistance is hosting a drive-thru version of its Annual Volunteer Appreciation event on Friday, February 18, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“The Grover Beach community has been positively impacted by each and every volunteer that has selflessly participated in and helped with various Parks & Recreation events and activities. Especially over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to see how volunteers are the heart of our community,” said Grover Beach Mayor Jeff Lee. “We want to recognize all these individuals and groups who are essential to helping make our community a better place.”
The drive-thru event will take place at the Grover Beach Community Center located at 1230 Trouville Avenue, Grover Beach. Mayor Lee will provide a few words at the beginning of the event thanking the 2021 volunteers. All attendees will receive a special gift of gift cards, flowers and treats which will be distributed by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo students. Please note that all current COVID-19 guidelines and precautions will be enforced and all attendees will be asked to wear a mask when receiving their special gift.
The City is asking all 2021 volunteers to RSVP for the event by February 13 online, by phone at (805) 473-4580 or by email at gbparks@groverbeach.org. Volunteer opportunities throughout 2021 included sport programs, office work, special event support and more. While at the event, volunteers are also encouraged to snap photos and post them to social media and tag the City so photos can be shared (Facebook: @groverbeach; Instagram: @cityofgroverbeachca; Twitter: @CityGroverBeach).
“The Grover Beach Parks & Recreation department could not operate as smoothly and host such wonderful events and classes for the community without our many volunteers. The Volunteer Appreciation event is typically an annual tradition which is held to honor the contributions of our incredible and loyal volunteers,” said Grover Beach Parks & Recreation Director Kathy Petker. “We hope that this small token and showing of appreciation will show our volunteers how much they mean to us and that their contributions, big and small, are not going unnoticed.”
Whether community members have volunteered in the past or are interested in doing so for the first time in the coming year, there are so many opportunities to help out and give back all throughout the year. College and high school students may receive credit by volunteering at any Parks & Recreation event.
Some of Grover Beach volunteers’ favorite activities include the Dune Run, Santa's Workshop, Summer Concert Series, and the Mother Son Dinner and Dance. The City is always looking for additional volunteers. Anyone interested in volunteer opportunities for 2022 can call (805) 473-4580 or email at gbparks@groverbeach.org.
