[ARCHIVED] Grover Beach City Council Appoints Zach Zimmerman to Fill Council Vacancy

Zimmerman

At its meeting on April 24, the City Council appointed Zach Zimmerman to fill the vacancy following the resignation of Anna Miller. Council Member Zimmerman will serve the remainder of the term through December 2024.

On March 13, former Mayor Pro Tem Anna Miller resigned from City Council due to a change in residency. During the March 27 Council Meeting, the City Council provided direction for filling the vacant Council seat and Mayor Karen Bright appointed Council Member Robert Robert as Mayor Pro Tem through December 2023. The City Council decided to fill the Council vacancy by appointment instead of holding a special election and opened applications to all Grover Beach residents with an emphasis on encouraging applicants from District 3. The Council interviewed five applicants and collectively appointed Zach Zimmerman for the position based on his community and civic engagement background.

"We are excited to have Mr. Zimmerman join the Grover Beach City Council as our newest member. With his experience as a community leader, combined with his background in event coordination and community outreach, we believe he will bring significant value to our efforts in improving the quality of life for our residents," said Grover Beach Mayor Karen Bright. "We are confident he will help elevate the Council's efforts to enhance our community's economic, social and cultural well-being."

Zimmerman resides in District 3 and has been a resident of Grover Beach for three years. He works as a winemaker at Claiborne & Churchill, is a Grover Beach business owner of Empower Yoga with his partner and has ample experience in staff development, community engagement and civic volunteering. In addition, he has served on the Grover Beach Parks, Recreation and Beautification Commission since February. Zimmerman is an active program host and station ambassador for KYXZ's "Excellent Radio" in Grover Beach. He also serves on the advisory board of the Grover Beach Community Foundation and has held positions such as Events and Outreach Coordinator at Cal Poly, Executive Director of Jackson Hole Community Radio and Program Coordinator for Naturalists at Large.

"My goal as a member of the Grover Beach City Council is to better understand the needs and concerns of our community and serve my fellow residents to the best of my ability,” said Council Member Zimmerman. “I am committed to actively listening to the voices of residents and working collaboratively with my colleagues to promote the most sustainable and equitable interests of our constituents.”

With his appointment, the Grover Beach City Council consists of Mayor Karen Bright, Mayor Pro Tem Robert Robert, and Council Members Daniel Rushing, Clint Weirick and Zach Zimmerman. Council Members will continue to serve four-year terms that expire at staggered intervals, and Council seats in Districts 3 and 4 will be up for election in 2024. For more information about Grover Beach’s elections, visit the City’s website.

Following Zimmerman’s appointment, there is now a vacancy on the Parks, Recreation and Beautification Commission. More information related to applications will be forthcoming.
