Grover Beach to Begin Major City Street Repairs on September 11

major street repairs

On Monday, September 11, the City of Grover Beach will begin work repairing several sections of City streets that experienced damage during the 2023 winter storms. Drivers can expect slight delays throughout the week while the repairs are completed.

“We are pleased to see this repair work underway to address the significant impact the winter storms had on our infrastructure,” said Grover Beach Mayor Karen Bright. “Maintaining our roads in a safe condition is a priority for our Council and the entire Grover Beach community.”

The following streets will see active repair work between September 11 and September 15:

• West Grand Avenue (from 8th Street to Oak Park)
• South Oak Park Boulevard (from Mentone Avenue to The Pike)
• The Pike (from South 13th Street to Oak Park Boulevard)
• El Camino Real (from North 12th Street to Oak Park Boulevard)

Following the winter storms, City Public Works staff completed extensive pothole patching and minor repair work on these streets to ensure their continued usability. Some sections, however, required more extensive repairs. As a result, on July 24, the Grover Beach City Council awarded a $167,120 construction contract to Apodaca Paving for the repairs that begin September 11.

“These repairs are a vitally important step in restoring our major thoroughfares to a condition our City and residents deserve,” said Grover Beach City Manager Matt Bronson. “Storm recovery and street maintenance are a priority for all, and we look forward to the preservation and longevity of our infrastructure.”

City contractors began posting message boards in the project areas on September 7 to alert residents and businesses of the impending construction. This street repair work will not impact or overlap with any previously identified project in the City’s 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program, which includes full pavement rehabilitation on the major City streets.
